Education Foundations: Secondary Certificate

Current University of Oregon students interested in becoming a middle or high school teacher, should major in the subject area that most interests you and consider adding Education Studies Secondary Certificate courses. These courses will complement your subject area preparation and give you a jump start into UOTeach. Two courses help to reduce course load while in UOTeach.

EDST has agreements with Ethnic Studies and Romance Languages Spanish majors that allow students to complete either major and add the Secondary certificate or double-major in the Elementary Educational Foundations major.

UOTeach Teacher Pathway Courses

As a four-plus-one program, interested applicants can take the following undergraduate courses and transfer them into the UOTeach graduate program. In most cases, this is not represent a cost savings, but it can free candidates up valuable time during the program to focus on course work, field placement, or part-time employment.

There is no time limit for when previous coursework is completed. To be eligible for a waiver of credit, the student must have earned a B- or above or a ‘Pass’ in the course equivalent. The faculty instructor of the course to be waived, or a representative from the Offering Unit who has relevant course content expertise, will determine a course equivalent. Both the previous course title and grade must appear on an institutional transcript. Jump start courses do not supersede the degree credit minimum required by the Graduate School of 45 or state mandates.
