As an NSF ESPRIT Noyce Teaching Scholarship recipient, you are part of a growing cadre of federally supported science teachers working to improve the teaching and learning of science at the secondary level.

As an NSF ESPRIT Noyce Teaching Scholarship recipient, you are part of a growing cadre of federally supported science teachers working to improve the teaching and learning of science at the secondary level.

The NSF Noyce program requires that scholarship recipients complete 2 years of service as a mathematics or science teacher in a high-need school district for every year of funding received.

To meet the conditions of your federal payback scholarship agreement, you should focus your job search on finding a full-time 6th -12th grade Science teacher position in a high-need school district served by a local education agency (LEA). A high-need school district meets one of the following three criteria:

  1. ≥ 50% students enrolled eligible for participation in the free and reduced price lunch program established by the National School Lunch Act (42 S.C. 1751 et seq.)
  2. >34% of the classroom teachers at the Secondary level (across all academic subjects) do not have an undergraduate degree with a major or minor in, or a graduate degree, in the academic field in which they teach the largest percentage of their classes; or >34% of the teachers in two of the academic departments do not have an undergraduate or graduate degree with a major or minor in, or a graduate degree in the academic field in which they teach the largest percentage of their
  3. ≥ 15% teacher attrition rate over the last three school

NSF Program Officer Notes:

  1. If there is one school in a district that is a high-need school, the Noyce Scholar may fulfill their service requirement in that school district (5.26.2020).
  2. If a charter school is part of a state school district, then this charter school can serve as a place for the Noyce Scholar completing the service requirement (5.21.2020).
  3. For current awards, scholarship recipients must complete their service within 8 years of graduation from the program for which the scholarship was awarded (Noyce annual survey notes, 2019).

1. The UOTeach seminar courses focus on helping you prepare for your Job Search and marketing yourself for Job Fairs and interviews. This includes creation of a portfolio resume, practice interviews, a COE Educator Job Fair, practices, and support for Oregon Professional Educator Fair in Portland.

2. Growing Network of Noyce scholars in Oregon (as well as across the US). OSU Noyce scholars have found teaching positions in the following high-need school districts:

3. In Lane County: our understanding is that the following schools districts meet one of the eligibility criteria. Based on 2018-19 enrollment data (link to a summary), these Lane County mid-high schools appear to exceed the state average in percentage of students qualifying for free or reduced lunch or underrepresented minorities.
